What is it about sprinkles that makes them so appealing? When I see sprinkles, or as the Brits call them, hundreds and thousands, I spontaneously break out into a HUGE smile! ![]()
In New England they are called jimmies. I read that these teeny balls of happiness were invented in France and the French called them nonpareils-without equal. Yes, nothing compares to sprinkles especially when they are nestled comfortably on buttercream wedged between two layers of delicious and moist cake!
The movie was not that good. I didn’t care. ![]()

Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool layers in pans on wire racks 10 minutes. Remove from pans; cool completely.
Buttercream Frosting:
In a medium sized bowl, beat the butter until smooth. Gradually add in the confectioner’s sugar. Add in the milk a tablespoon at at time until you have a nice and spreadable consistency.
When the cake is completely cooled (if the cake is not completely cooled, it will ooze all over the sides of the cake), spread the buttercream frosting onto the center of the first layer up the edges of the cake.
Spread the jam onto the buttercream frosting.
Spread the jam onto the buttercream frosting.
Refrigerate before serving. Enjoy!![]()

oh and this cake, looks delicious!
Gaby was great in your last post, you might have to have a new special Gaby’s Gabbing section on your blog!
As wonderful as your review was of the movie, can you please provide next time a critique of the female lead actress for those that aren’t as interested in George Clooney?
I hope the clean up of the hundred and thousands doesn’t take forever!
Fabulous, a grown woman here is licking the screen …. this looks beyond yummy!
Aw, this is so yummy…and such a great project to take on together. I just gave my mom a Mother’s Day shoutout in my weekend post for teaching me baking skills – I’m sure Gaby will be doing the same in a few years.
As for Clooney…the man is like Chanel No. 5: timeless and great for all occasions…day or night.
Haha…I would watch a boring movie to see George Clooney, too. Now to the delicious cake…so simple and lovely. My hubby would want a large slice, too. Your Gaby is gorgeous…and a good baker and writer? You must be so proud
Hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day, Lora.
This cake does look like a big delicious sweet-burger and a lot of fun to bake as well. Hope you have a wonderful visit at your in-laws next month. Who knows, perhaps you’ll see George Clooney on the train instead of just rows and rows of postcards of him.
What a beautiful post… and an even more beautiful cake
As for George Clooney, love him, absolutely love him
Aww what a fantastic Mother’s Day you had with sprinkle cake and George Clooney, how about that?! Love the bit of history you gave about it too. Now I got to go to Asian store so bye for now:).
This is fantastic! A great way to celebrate Mother’s Day! And, yes, send me George Clooney!
Looks great, Lora! Sprinkles make everything fun!

Hundreds and thousands are so pretty. Great fun too until you drop a tube all over the kitchen floor. I’m still finding them from last time Oliver had them out !
Lora…a wonderful Mother’s Day cake. I am sure you had a swell time with your family . Elisabeth told me that she had a great time with you
Gaby looks beautiful

Elin
I love sprinkles too! They just look so happy
Ooo, sprinkles! They do make everything a little more fun. Although this cake looks pretty fun on its own, love the sandwich cake!
George Clooney? Send him my way please, with a slice of this cake
I haven’t watched that movie you’re talking about and after reading your reviews I guess I never will
your daughter is SO pretty, gorgeous loving parents = gorgeous loving kids! When is she starting her own blog?
xoxo
Like Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, here’s what I’m loving… those sprinkles, receiving a postcard from you in Italy, and your daughter’s tank top! This cake sounds delicious. Yummy!
What is it about sprinkles that always makes me feel like a kid instantly? They make me so happy! Great post, Lora, and a very cute little baking assistant you had!
Thanks for sharing another mouthwatering baked treat.
Yum! and Sprinkles are amazing!!
Gabby is so cute and quite the up and coming baker. Our Gabbi likes sprinkles too.
This looks so good!
I call them Jimmies! And I’m not sure why, many Philadelphians get their backs up against the wall when they are called anything else!!
Sprinkles make everything better. Great cake and Gabby looks proud, as she should be! Love the idea of mother and daugther working together!
What a cool cake! Sprinkles are so decorative and happy! What a beautiful daughter you have!

Sprinkles just make everything better. It’s all that color…it brings out the happy.
It looks like a giant jelly (cake) sandwich! YUM! You have a cute apprentice baker there:)
As soon as I saw the picture I smiled
I think it was the sprinkles! I always end up with sprinkles everywhere too…how does this always happen?!?
What a fun cake. I do see the “hamburger” resemblance. You just reminded me that I must see the George Clooney movie. How can you go wrong with colored sprinkles – nice job!
Anything with sprinkles has my name on it!! I seriously want to eat this entire cake right now.
How cute is your daughter? I love that she helps you bake!
Looks heavenly, Lora! Thanks for sharing! Sprinkles make everything so much better!
Colourful sprinkles make the cake look so happy and lovely! Bet it tastes as great as it looks!
Oh goodness, your top picture is like total food porn. Who can resist those fun little sprinkles and a lovely cake? Definitely not me.
