On the left is an olive tray with artichokes and some fresh veggies. THE BEST LASAGNE EVER! And to the right are some buffalo wings and hot sauce. They deep fried the buffalo wings out back.

We had a wonderful day. We watched a little soccer and snacked. Then we waited for the game to start. We watched the game. The nonnas were playing cards. My lil’ guy was learning how to play the Italian card game named Scopa with Nonna Maria.

Here are the hosts! The ladies were making fun of Nonno Sal because he found an apron to put on after he dirtied his shirt outside. To the right of Nonno are the buffalo wings I told you about and some burgers! They just celebrated their 50th Anniversary!![]()

How did you celebrate the Super Bowl? What food did you make or what did you eat at a party?
I like to make this recipe in a Bundt pan. The cake is moist and full of rich chocolate flavor. It’s a hit at every party!
Chocolate Buttermilk Cake
yields about 8-10 slices-depending on how thick you slice;)
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
3/4 cup cake flour
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs, room temperature
3/4 cup buttermilk
Preheat the oven to 350 F. Butter and flour a Bundt pan or a 11 x 7 inch baking pan.
Create a double boiler by filling a saucepan with 2 inches of water and bringing it to a boil. Place unsweetened chocolate in a stainless steel mixing bowl (I used glass) and set on top of simmering water,
Allow mixture to melt–do not stir right away, When chocolate has melted, stir it with a whisk. Allow to cool at room temperature
In a medium sized bowl, sift the cake flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
In your mixing bowl, cream the butter, sugar, and vanilla extract on medium-high speed until it is light and fluffy (approximately 3 minutes). Stop the mixer to scrape the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula.
With the mixer on medium speed, add the eggs one at a time. Scrape the sides of the bowl after you add each egg.
With a spatula, scrape the melted unsweetened chocolate into the mix and on medium-low speed combine. Stop the mixer and scrape the bowl with your spatula and combine more with your spatula.![]()
Turn your mixer to low and add the flour in three parts and alternate with the buttermilk in 2 parts, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Beat two to three times after each addition. Stop the mixer and scrape the sides of the bowl with your spatula after each addition. Make sure every thing is well blended.![]()
Spoon the luscious batter into your prepared pan and bake for about 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out dry. Allow to cool completely before adding your drizzle or frosting. ![]()
Confectioner’s Sugar Glaze
1 cup confectioner’s sugar
2 tbsp. milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
In a medium sized bowl, add all the ingredients and whisk together. If you feel the glaze is too thin, add a little more confectioner’s sugar until you achieve the desired consistency.

Fabulous cake, Lora…and aren’t Sal and Maria the cutest? My hubby would have asked for double frosting, but I like your compromise~

That is some spread! And to top it off with your fantastic cake… perfection!
That is one serious spread of food! I spent the super bowl making taffy and watching TLC
Looks like you had a great time and a feast! Wow!
Saved your cake recipe, it always comes handy to have a go-to chocolate bundt cake recipe!
Wow! I wish I was at your party! Everything looks amazing! Especially your cake, yum!
That is a Super Bowl worthy spread! Yummy! Your cake looks fantastic. It was a good compromise. My guy and I went to Dallas to tailgate around the stadium and to our disappoint their were no bars around to actually bar hop during the game. We ended up two hours away from the stadium at a Chili’s drinking and eating. It was fun but we both wish we would have had the party at our house instead.
That seems like a good compromise on the icing! The food at your party looks great, especially the cake!
I’d say this was a wonderful compromise. I can’t imagine anyone not being happy with this cake. I love cakes made with buttermilk, especially chocolate. I made dessert, too, for a friend’s Super Bowl party but it wasn’t decadent like this!
Wow, what a delicious feast! Love the cake!
Woooooow!
The feast! The cake! Such fun!
The cake looks fabulous and it looks like everyone went all out for that Super Bowl feast. Impressive!
Oh my word does that cake look good. Love the icing that’s dripping off the sides of the cake. And all of the food looks incredible, that lasagne looks amazing!!

I have a recipe for chocolate buttermilk cupcakes and love it! The buttermilk makes the cake so moist
Now THAT is a Super Bowl feast. I’ll be they were thrilled when you walked in with this cake. Perfect end to any meal.
That spread looks amazing!!! I love using buttermilk in cakes and desserts, keep them so moist and delish!
Oh my look at all that food! And that CAKE! Wow! That’s a perfectly fair compromise and that cake is beautiful. You did an amazing job. I was ill on Sunday with whatever my daughter brought home from school but my other half made Super Nachos. A lot of nachos. With tea.
I’m just glad Green Bay won.
Looks like an amazing cake! I love the combination of chocolate and buttermilk… Perfect!
I love buttermilk in cakes. It is so delicious.
The spread is amazing. I would have watched the game if I had this amazing food to eat! What great fun!
I’m with the gobs of icing crowd! Powdered sugar is pretty. Icing is so much sweeter.
We pigged out on pizza. Running is not pizza-friendly I found out
Mmmm those ribs look soooo good. And the salami/pepperoni spread. To. die. for. always. I dang near speared a waiter who tried to take my salami & cheese plate at my wedding.
the Sicilian Super Bowl party was such a feast. everything looks so good.
the cake is beautiful and bet is was delightful. thanks for sharing Lola
i’m with you with the icing, the more the better
How fun! Great compromise about the icing, you created something lovely that all I’m sure enjoyed.
What a lovely cake, I think that is a perfect compromise
Looks like such a wonderful time, always wonderful to extra family
Gorgeous Cake! Wish I had been at that feast, that was a lot of delicious food. Love your pictures.
Holy yumminess! Did you guys watch the game at all? I don’t think I would’ve with all that food around… wow…looks incredible!!
Your cake sounds and looks so beautiful! Love the frittata, never would have thought to use peas in it, but it looks so cute!
Take care,
Terra
This cake looks incredible!
I want to eat at your house! I’d even put up with watching the Super Bowl…
I’m kind of puzzled – I just made this cake, and honestly, it’s dry and crumbly. I don’t think I overbaked it – I had it in for about 35 minutes in a bundt pan – when I poked it with a toothpick, I got moist chocolate crumbs, so not quite sure where I went wrong.
I am thinking perhaps an oil/butter combo might have made the cake moister, along with a bit more buttermilk, and perhaps eliminating the baking powder and using all baking soda instead?
