Thanksgiving Cranberry Sauce and a Giveaway!!!

I have a slight crush on cranberries. I go a little crazy when they come out in season and I put them in almost every thing I bake. I mentioned in my last post that my favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner is the cranberry sauce (tied in first place with the stuffing…ehem…I cannot lie!)


This is a recipe I learned how to make from my sweet mom. When I was old enough to know what I was doing and not burn myself or the house down, I was given cranberry sauce duty. I felt so proud of myself making it and having it turn out perfect every year. Then I got smarter and started to learn how to make DESSERTS!!
If you don’t have a cranberry sauce recipe, I think you should try this one. If you already have one, I think you should try this one. The orange added to the cranberry sauce is wonderful. The touch of fresh ginger paired with the cranberries is delicious! You can’t go wrong with this recipe!

Cranberry Sauce
16 ounces of fresh cranberries (2 cups)
1 1/2 cup of sugar
1 cup water
one navel orange (add the juice of 1/2 and cut the other 1/2 in chunks and add to the cranberry mixture in the pan)
1 sliver of fresh ginger (about the size of a garlic clove, peeled)

In a medium sized bowl, rinse the cranberries with cool water, and remove any stems or blemished berries. Drain the cranberries in a colander.
Heat water and sugar to boiling in 3-quart saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves.. Continue boiling 5 minutes longer, stirring occasionally.
Stir in cranberries. Heat to boiling over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Continue boiling about 5 minutes longer, stirring occasionally, until cranberries begin to pop. Simmer for about 20 minutes. Don’t worry if every single cranberry does not completely pop. When the sauce is cooked, spoon out the orange pieces and the ginger sliver. Pour sauce into bowl or container. Refrigerate about 3 hours or until chilled.

You can’t go wrong with Ina’s recipes! There are few TV personalities that I really like, but she is definitely one that I do!

Plus, this cranberry sauce looks beautiful. Strangely enough, cranberry sauce is one of my favorite things about Thanksgiving!

Ooo I was just looking at a cranberry recipe that I want to try but the added ginger to this adds a little something that I bet would be amazing! I love cranberries…the taste, the color and even the juice. Last year we even strung them with popcorn and put them on our tree. Last Thanksgiving was the first time I really tried homemade cranberry sauce with different Thanksgiving dishes and I am hooked. Big time. I love cranberry season.

I have a bit of a cranberry obsession as well! I always buy bags and bags of them. Usually most of them get used, but on occasion, I will find that lonely, freezerburned bag in the back of the freezer.
Your recipe is similar to my favorite sauce… most of the same ingredients, only I don’t use the ginger (love the idea though!) and I add a splash of Grand Marnier.

I am a serial channel flipper and it drives Mr. Sideline Chef batty but when I come to the Food Network channel all flipping stops. I look forward to Ina’s show because of how laid back and organized she is. I love that she also shows how to make the tablescapes and all of her recipes look incredible!

this is a lot like the recipe that I usually use, except we use fresh orange juice in place of the water, and I’ve never put ginger in, but I may have to try that this year.. my middle daughter loves to help make the sauce, she really gets a kick from the berries popping..
